¡°Sunday Seoul Director Kim Byeong-gyu¡±, the editorial hero who succeeded in ¡°Sunday Seoul¡±

[Written in commemoration of a journalist] ¡°In memory of ¡°Sunday Seoul Manager Kim Byeong-gyu¡±¡±

-Ilseok Moon Publisher

I am a writer who has benefited from'Sunday Seoul (1968-1991)' a lot. 'Sunday Seoul' was a publication published by the daily newspaper Seoul Shinmun. It was a yellow (yellowish) weekly magazine. It was a weekly magazine that was very popular with female stars such as actors, talents and singers in swimsuits as cover models.

I have been in contact with Sunday Seoul since around 1979. At the time, the head of the publishing bureau of the Seoul Newspaper was Shin Woo-sik (former president of the Seoul Newspaper). 'Sunday Seoul' was under the jurisdiction of the Seoul Newspaper Publishing Bureau, and Director Kim Byeong-gyu (1936-2012) was the editorial desk of ``Sunday Seoul.'' (I call him that way. Please understand the title.) From Yeosu, Jeollanam-do. Director Kim Byeong-gyu was a graduate of Gyeonggi-Yeosu High School and Seoul National University Law School. His eyes looked very big compared to others. He smoked a rope cigarette.

Director Kim Byeong-gyu devoted the paper to'Sunday Seoul' to me. It gave me an opportunity to write a series. He was a benefactor. Since I started writing on'Sunday Seoul', my moon luck (Ùþê¡) opened up.

It was a time when the 5.18 Gwangju Democratization Movement took place in 1980, and society was tumultuous. At that time, I wrote a series of articles titled'Human Market' in'Sunday Seoul'. Director Kim Byeong-gyu praised my series, saying, ¡°Because of the series of writers, the number of readers has increased,¡± he often bought makgeolli. He collected this series and made a book called ¡°The Unique Zone,¡± which became a bestseller. The salary has been paid enough to allow a villager who came up from the countryside to buy a house.

'Sunday Seoul' was directed and edited by Director Kim Byeong-gyu. It ranked first in the number of sales units, and about 50,000 copies were sold every week, so it had a great influence. Just because it is a yellow magazine, some people have been dismissed. Reporters such as Doo-Ho Kim'Sunday Seoul', who later served as Goodday Executive Vice President and Editor-in-Chief (currently the publisher of Interview 365), and reporter Kim Jae-sung'Sunday Seoul', who served as the Prime Minister's office, were the reporters.

Director Kim Byeong-gyu was the hero of the weekly magazine. Perhaps it was because he was from Honam, an area that was treated with great hospitality by the Park Jung-hee and Chun Doo-hwan regimes. He was a place where he was treated coldly even in the company. However, he made a name for himself as the protagonist who has grown'Sunday Seoul' into a luxury weekly magazine in Asia.

On the evening of the 26th, in Insa-dong, Seoul, I met writer Lee Sang-heon, who was the writer of'Sunday Seoul' at the time, and Kim Gyeol-i, the second daughter of manager Kim Byeong-gyu, and continued the story through dialogue between manager Kim Byeong-gyu and Jae-se-si. When it comes to'Sunday Seoul', it was'Kim Byeong-gyu'. Sunday Seoul Director Kim Byeong-gyu was a journalist in South Korea whose name will remain forever even as the times pass. In memory of his deceased, Director Kim Byung-gyu, who was the hero of the Korean weekly magazine world.  He was a legendary hero in the history of the Korean Weekly Newspaper.

The following is the full text of the post, ¡°Abandoning Reporter Village,¡± written on March 21, 2009, by the late manager Byeong-gyu Kim.

Giving up the Giza village

Written by/Byeong-gyu Kim (Former Director of the Seoul Newspaper Sunday Seoul)

¡°I went to the town office and removed the seal certificate on the copy of my family register.

It was because of the compensation for donations to the Giza village.

From the address of the Giza village to Bundang on a copy of the family register

I moved a lot.

Bangbae-dong in Giza Village, Eunma Apartment in Bangbae-dong,

Dogok Samho Apartment, Daechi-dong Cheongsil Apartment, and then

Dong-A Villa, from here to Bundang.

It's like looking at my resume.

Kim Byung-gyu seems to see the rise and fall of his life.

I had no intention of leaving Giza Village.

It was also nice to watch the sunset at home.

Which painter would use such paints to paint the game?

At least, there is no one picture that is the same.

On a nice day, the mountains of Ganghwa Island in the distance

Like a dream, it casts a lot of shadows.

But Yuri, who entered junior high school

One day, I got angry when I threw my bag around.

¡°We are moving! Because this hill is steep

I can't go to school."

My house is on the hillside of Giza Village

It was also at the top there

It was worth it.

Coming up from the bus terminal

It was like climbing.

There he rises up and the dragon cannot ascend

I chewed my resentment,

Memories lurk in the twist of the copy.

However, he decided not to receive compensation.

He also contacted the secretary who was in charge of this.

¡°No, everyone else receives it, but if they don¡¯t,

Wouldn¡¯t it be sad?¡±

¡°I don't think it's the money I'm going to get. ¡±

My thoughts are like this.

One-third of those who have kept the neighborhood up to now,

Dedicated a third to Eunpyeong-gu Office to write to the poor,

The other third is

It would be good to do it for those who left the Giza village.

I won¡¯t get rich anyway

I don¡¯t mean to starve without it

I wanted to fall out.

So I brushed it off.

It¡¯s easy, but the sadness in one corner of my heart

For some reason!¡±
